COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah shortstop Melissa Stahnke and New Mexico right-handed pitcher Hayley Punter are the Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first player of the week honor for Stahnke and pitcher of the week award for Punter this season.

Stahnke, a freshman from Ridgefield, Wash. (Ridgefield HS), hit .471 (8-for-17) with 10 RBI, three runs scored, three home runs and two doubles in five games last week. She helped lead the Utes to a 5-1 victory over Utah State to begin the week as she went 2-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a home run. Stahnke went 3-for-6 in two games vs. San Diego State, with her best performance coming in the Utes 6-3 win, which she batted 3-for-4, scoring a run and driving in three RBI off of two doubles and a home run. Against UNLV, Stahnke helped Utah split the series, going 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in the Utes 5-2 win, while collecting two RBI after going 2-of-4 from the plate in the 7-4 loss. Stahnke currently leads the team in home runs (14), doubles (9) and slugging percentage (.760), while ranking second in batting average (.364), RBI (43) and hits (47).

Punter, a freshman from Victoria, Australia. (Brentwood Secondary School), went 1-0 in her only appearance last week for New Mexico. In the Lobos 2-1 victory over Colorado State, she allowed just three hits and one unearned run in seven innings of work, while striking out an MWC-high this season 12 and walking none. Punter struck out every Ram batter at least once in the contest and now has 108 K's on the year.
