COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah sophomore Kara Foster and San Diego State senior lefthander Christina Ross have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Foster, from Derby, Kan., nailed hits in each of Utah's four games this past weekend. The sophomore drove in the first run in game one of the Colorado State series to give the Utes a 1-0 lead. She also hit a two-run homer in the eighth to cut the Rams' late-inning lead. In the third inning of Utah's second game with CSU, Foster nailed a three-run home run, which eventually became the game-winning hit in the 7-2 victory. In the series opener against New Mexico, she singled with a runner on base to advance the lead runner, who would then score on the next play for one of Utah's two runs of the game. Foster was also hit by a pitch in the fourth inning of game two to load the bases. The Utes scored two runs in that inning to break a scoreless tie and later secure the victory, 4-2.

Ross, a Santa Clarita, Calif., native, went a perfect 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA, as San Diego State swept its two-game series over UNLV. She pitched all 14 innings of play and allowed one run on nine hits (two extra-base hits) and three walks. She added 12 strikeouts and limited the Rebels to a .180 batting average. Ross tossed a complete game shutout in the Aztecs' 4-0 series opener over the Rebels on Saturday. The senior southpaw struck out five and walked two, while yielding five hits over seven innings. On Sunday, she gave up one run on four hits and a walk over seven innings, as SDSU defeated UNLV 2-1. Ross struck out 12 and allowed a single extra-base hit, a solo home run in the fifth to mark her first run allowed in 30 innings and her first earned run allowed in over 35 innings.
