Two Softball Conference Openers to be Televised Live April 5

BYU at SDSU and Utah at UNLV games televised live on CSTV and The Mtn.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West will open its conference season with two live softball telecasts on Thursday, April 5. The race for the league title begins on CSTV at 3 p.m. PT with San Diego State hosting BYU. The Mtn.'s inaugural telecast of softball will begin with the double-header between UNLV and Utah in Las Vegas, Nev., at 5 p.m. PT.

San Diego State led the way in the non-conference season, boasting a 23-12 overall record. The Aztecs have won nine of their last 10 games and have wins over then-No. 10 Texas and then-No. 20 Georgia Tech. Last year's runner up, BYU, enters the conference season with an 18-14 overall record. The teams have met 29 times, with the Aztecs holding a slight 15-14 lead.

Utah (19-12-1) and UNLV (24-16) will face each other for the 61st time on Thursday. Utah holds a 35-25 advantage over the Rebels, as the teams split last year's regular-season series. Last year's MWC Tournament Champions, Utah defeated UNLV in the second round, 1-0, to advance to the championship.

The 2007 softball broadcast schedule includes an unprecedented 11 games on national and regional television. The MountainWest Sports Network - The Mtn., will show seven games, while four games will be broadcast live nationally on CSTV. San Diego State, the 2006 regular-season champion and NCAA Tournament participant, will be featured four times this season. BYU and Utah, who also made postseason appearances in 2006, will have a combined six contests televised.
