Utah's Hayhurst and San Diego State's Durazo Named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Respectively Durazo garners honor for third time this season.

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Utah first baseman Niki Hayhurst and San Diego State right-handed pitcher Sandra Durazo are the Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first player of the week honor for Hayhurst this season and the third pitcher of the week for Durazo. Hayhurst, a sophomore from Keizer, Ore. (McNary HS), hit .600 (9-for-15) with 11 RBI, six runs scored, three home runs and a triple in four games last week. She recorded multiple-hits in three of the four contests, while drawing two walks and striking out twice. In the first game of a double-header at New Mexico, Hayhurst went 3-for-5 with two runs and nine putouts in the Utes 14-5 victory. In the second game of the twinbill, she went 1-for-4 as the Utes and Lobos tied 5-5. Her lone hit of the game was a two-run single to center field that gave Utah a 5-2 lead. Hayhurst went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double in the 6-2 win at Colorado State Sunday. In the second contest vs. the Rams, she was a perfect 3-for-3, with all three hits being home runs. The three home runs tied a Utah single-game record as did her seven RBI.
Durazo, a senior from Granada, Calif. (Granada HS), went 4-1 with a 1.14 ERA in five appearances last week. She pitched a complete game in each of her three starts and posted a 1.00 ERA in those three outings (21.0 innings). In 24.2 total innings of work, she scattered 21 hits and gave up four earned runs, while walking nine and striking out 13. Durazo's first victory of the week came in the 3-2 win over Cal Poly, where she pitched the final two innings of the game, allowing three hits. She posted a shutout over Cal Poly (7-0) in the second game of the doubleheader, scattering five hits, while walking one and striking out three. In the 4-3 win at UNLV in the Mountain West Conference opener, she pitched a three-hitter and gave up two earned runs, while walking four and striking out five. Durazo collected her third complete game of the week in the 4-1 victory over Santa Clara. She allowed eight hits and one earned run, while striking out three.
