COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU freshman shortstop Jodi Norton and junior right-hander Niki Andersen have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Norton, a Mesa, Ariz., native, hit .462 (6-for-13) at the Stanford Classic in Palo Alto, Calif., last weekend, with three home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored. She hit safely in all four games for the Cougars, including a 1-for-2 effort in the opening game against Illinois. Norton smashed a seventh inning homer to bring BYU within one run of the Fighting Illini in a 3-2 loss. Against UC Riverside, she went 3-for-5 from the plate, smashing a fifth inning solo homer and following with a sixth inning RBI single, as the Cougars beat the Highlanders, 9-5. In a 5-2 win over Hawaii, Norton's smashed an RBI single and ended her weekend by belting her third homer of the tournament in BYU's 7-5 loss to No. 13 Stanford.

Andersen posted a 1-0 record in two appearances for the Cougars last weekend in Palo Alto, with 12 strikeouts, while giving up 10 hits and only three walks in 12.0 innings. She notched a complete game victory in BYU's 5-2 win over Hawaii, striking out eight and scattering four hits. Against the 13th-ranked Cardinal, she came on in relief in the second inning to record four strikeouts and give up only six hits and two earned runs.
