COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU outfielder Oli Keohohou and Colorado State right-handed pitcher Melanie Mahoney have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Keohohou, a first-team All-American last season, went 3-for-6 (.500) from the plate, with one homerun, three RBI and three runs scored last weekend as the Cougars split a doubleheader against No. 2 Stanford. She started the day going 1-for-2 from the plate and scoring one run as BYU fell to the Cardinal, 6-3. In BYU's 5-4 win, the Newbury Park, Calif., product proved to be the difference as she capped her 2-for-4 performance from the plate with a game-winning three-run homerun in the top of the seventh, her MWC-leading 14th of the season. Keohohou also leads the conference in RBI (31) and slugging percentage (1.070), as well. This is the third player of the week honor of her career.
Mahoney, a native of Erie, Colo., earned the first pitcher of the week honor of her career leading the Rams to their first victory over a Pac-10 opponent in five seasons, a 2-0 victory over Oregon. Mahoney was credited with the complete game shutout, while giving up four hits, two walks and striking out three. The freshman hurler currently leads the Colorado State pitching staff with a 7-5 record and a 1.80 ERA on the season.
