THIS WEEK
Four teams will see action in the final week of non-conference play. BYU (17-6) will face ranked opponents #22/#25 DePaul and #8/#8 Oregon State, while UNLV (13-19) will face #9/#9 Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. New Mexico (15-13) hosts Northern Colorado, while Utah (15-10) hosts its own tournament in Salt Lake City. The Utes will face Utah Valley State, Portland State and Harvard. Colorado State (19-9) and San Diego State (15-8) have the week off.
MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE QUICK HITS
BYU
BYU's season-high winning streak continued to seven games after the Cougars beat Wisconsin...The streak was snapped in an 8-0 loss to No. 5 Stanford...In BYU's 11-inning victory over Wisconsin, the Cougars erased four separate leads finally winning on a walk-off single by senior Ashlyn Russell in the bottom of the 11th frame...When the Cougars beat Miami (Ohio), 10-0, it was the fourth shutout victory in their last five games...Over that span, BYU won by the eight-run rule three times, including an 8-0 win over Texas A&M.
COLORADO STATE
Kim Klabough pitched the first perfect game of her career and the first in Colorado State history since 2003 against Jacksonville...In her complete-game victory, she allowed no hits, no walks and struck out a career-high 12 batters...The Rams swept all four games of the Capital Classic Softball Tournament in Sacramento, Calif., defeating Illinois, Jacksonville, Columbia and Southern Utah.
NEW MEXICO
In the two wins over South Dakota State on Saturday, New Mexico extended its win streak to 13 games, the third longest in UNM history...On Sunday, the Lobos' streak came to an end when Texas Tech defeated UNM, 4-2...New Mexico is 15-13 on the season and continues to do well at home as it has a near perfect 10-1 record at Lobo Field...Cassie Chavez, Kristina Schmallen and Jennifer Deitrich each made the Lobo Classic all-tournament team...Chavez was also named tournament MVP.
SAN DIEGO STATE
The Aztecs went 1-3 in the Hawai'i Tournament to round out their non-conference season...Two of the three losses were by a combined score of 2-0...Megan McDonald leads the Aztecs on offense with a .347 BA, three homeruns and 14 RBI...Christina Ross owns a 1.20 ERA and has struck out 47 batters this year.
UNLV
On the year, UNLV is 1-0 when giving up one hit and 2-0 when allowing three hits...The Rebels are 0-2 when their hurlers throw two-hitters...In her second at bat last weekend, pitcher Kelly Griego deposited a three-run home run over the right field fence...Currently, UNLV is riding a seven-game losing streak...In all of 2005, the Rebels only had three losing streaks (one three-gamer and two two-gamers)...Since 1985, the program has had only three streaks of seven losses.
UTAH
Utah hurler Meghan Dyer was featured in the last issue of Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd...SI highlighted Dyer for her six-inning perfect game against UTEP on Feb. 25, when she held her rivals to a .056 batting average that weekend and was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week...Devina Quintero led the offense for the Utes, going 5-for-20 (.250) with two doubles and two RBI...Quintero hit the team's only two doubles (her team-leading fifth and sixth) on the weekend and was one of two Utes to plate two RBI...The three straight losses last weekend were the longest losing skid for the Utes this season...Utah is 6-3 in one-run games this season...Five of Utah's last seven games have been against nationally ranked opponents.
