Colorado State also made an appearance in the tournament, as the Rams went 1-4 on the weekend. San Diego State finished 6-1 last week at the San Diego Classic II, while BYU posted a 2-2 record at the USF Underarmour Showcase in Tampa, Fla. The Lobos went 1-4 in the tournament but faced the likes of #6/11 Arizona State, #12/13 Arizona, and #16/19 Louisiana-Lafayette.

WEEK 7 PREVIEW
Three MWC teams will travel to Sacramento, Calif., this weekend, as BYU, Colorado State and UNLV will participate in the Capital Classic. The three squads will play similar opponents in #10/7 California, Cal Poly, Dartmouth and Sacramento State. New Mexico will head to the Emerald City for a double-header vs. Seattle and a three-game series at #3/3 Washington, while San Diego State plays host to Texas Tech in a Tuesday double-header before a one-and-one series with Cal State Fullerton on Friday and Saturday. Utah takes its two-game win streak into a five-game homestand that starts with a doubleheader against Boise State on Wednesday.

COUGARS CLOSE OUT 33-GAME ROAD TRIP
BYU heads to Sacramento, Calif., this week to close out its 33-game road trip. During the span, the Cougars have played five games that went into extra innings. At the USF Underarmour Showcase, junior Angeline Quiocho hit a walkoff, three-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning vs. Ball State to yield a 5-4 victory. The win gave the Cougars their second consecutive win in extended games, after their first extra-innings win against #24/21 Fresno State (2-0, 10 inn.) on March 5. BYU fell to then #12/13 Tennessee in 10 innings (4-0), and lost two consecutive games against Mississippi (4-2) in eight and Texas (5-4) in nine.

FRESHMAN DUO ANCHOR RAM PITCHING STAFF
Colorado State freshmen Kelli Eubanks (6-3) and Dani Chaplin (3-4) have combined for 106.4 innings in the circle with 74 strikeouts, while only allowing 32 walks. Eubanks is holding opposing batters to a .242 average at the plate, while Chaplin has held batters to a .241 average. The pair have 18 starts in 25 games for the Rams, with nine combined complete games.

UNM'S COX AND UNLV'S FATA EACH RIDING EIGHT-GAME HITTING STREAK
New Mexico freshman Shenise Cox hit .500 in five games at the Judi Garman Classic, including four contests against nationally-ranked opponents. She went 6-for-12 at the plate with one run scored and one double at the tournament. Cox is riding an eight-game hitting streak after the weekend and is hitting .333 through the first 23 games of 2009.

A fellow freshman, UNLV's Elena Fata hit for a .500 average at the National Invitational Softball Tournament, having gone 5-for-10 with two RBI, while scoring four runs. She owned identical on-base and slugging percentages (.600), and took four free trips to first base with help from two walks and two hits-by-pitches, while not recording a strikeout. Fata's performance in the tournament upped her season batting average to .299 with help from an eight-game hitting streak over the past nine games. She has hit .435 during that stretch, with 10 hits in 23 at-bats., including two doubles and one home run.

AZTECS COMING OUT ON TOP
San Diego State has won seven of its last eight games, nine of its last 11 and 13 of its last 17 games. The Aztecs finished the San Diego Classic II with a 6-1 record, having outscored their opponents 36-10. Of SDSU's 12 losses this season, eight have come against nationally-ranked teams, including UCLA (twice), Stanford (twice), Washington, Long Beach State and Louisiana-Lafayette (twice).

UTES MAKING THE ROUNDS
Utah leads the MWC with 27 home runs this season. Seven different Utes have notched round-trippers this year, led by Kara Foster, who has hit 12 homers in 2009 and 47 in her career. Foster is now just three home runs away from passing Melissa Stahnke (2001-04) for the all-time school record. She is followed on the squad's season-high list by Whitney Holm (7), Angie Boardman (3), Staci Hemingway (2), Sharee Fonoti (1), Jasey Jensen (1), and Bonnie Muir (1).

The league began in the fall of 1999 with eight institutions - Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming. The MWC welcomed TCU as its newest member in July 2005. Four different institutions have captured the MWC regular-season softball title since the 2000 season. San Diego State leads the way with four championships, followed by BYU (3), Colorado State (1) and Utah (1). In its nine-year history, Mountain West teams have made a total of 15 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
