Utah's Trevis And UNLV's Truax Claim McLeodUSA MWC Weekly Honors
Softball player and pitcher receive recognition for outstanding play.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah's Lyndsey Trevis and UNLV's Nicole Truax are this week's McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Trevis helped Utah to a 2-4 record in the National Invitational Softball Tournament in San Jose, while Truax posted a 2-0 record and helped UNLV to a 2-2 mark in a mini-tournament at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Trevis, from Glendora, Calif., batted .400 (6-for-15) with eight RBI and scored five runs in the six games. The sophomore, who primarily plays third base and hits in the No. 4 slot in the lineup, notched home runs and collected seven of her eight RBI in Utah's two wins. In the 13-12 win over No. 20 Long Beach State, she went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a home run. She went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs in the 10-2 win over Virginia. In Utah's four losses, that included No. 4 Arizona State and No. 6 California, she was a collective 3-for-9 at the plate. The Utes are 12-13 overall.
Truax, a product of Green Valley High in Las Vegas, did not allow an earned run in three appearances. She notched two complete-game wins over Eastern Illinois and threw one-third of an inning as a reliever vs. LA-Lafayette. She struck out 10, walked five, scattered six hits and was charged with five unearned runs in 14.1 innings. Truax improved to 7-3 on the season while UNLV stands 13-9.
This is the first weekly conference honor for each of this week's selections. It is the first award of the season for Utah and the second pitching award for UNLV. The Rebels have also claimed the player award once.
