COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior outfielder Brooke Cadiente and San Diego State freshman right-handed pitcher Bre DeSanta have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Cadiente, a Mesa, Ariz. native, went 7-for-11 (.636) from the plate, with three home runs, a double and nine RBI at last weekend's Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah, helping the Cougars to a 4-0 record for the week. Cadiente had multiple-hit games in three out of the four contests, starting with her 3-for3, two home run performance against No. 12 Washington. Against the Huskies, the junior smashed a three-run homer and a solo home run, driving in four RBI and scored two runs of her own to lead BYU to a 6-4 win. Against Santa Barbara, Cadiente went 2-for-4, with a double, two RBI and a run scored in a 4-3 eight-inning victory. The 2001 Mountain West Tournament MVP ended the week going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, three RBI and two runs scored in the Cougars 7-6 win over Utah State.

DeSanta appeared in four of the five Aztec games last weekend at the Worth Invitational in Fullerton, Calif., giving up nine hits, two runs and six walks in 13.2 innings of work. Her best performance of the tournament came in San Diego State's, 1-0, nine-inning victory over No. 11 Oregon State. The Scottsdale, Ariz. product pitched a complete game against the Beavers, giving up two hits and tying her career-high of seven strikeouts, leading the Aztecs to their first victory over a top-15 team this season. DeSanta is now 2-5 on the season, with a 2.11 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 15 appearances.
