COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV catcher Samantha Kimura and right-handed pitcher Geney Orris are the Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Both players helped the Rebels (9-7 overall) post a 2-2 record last week. This is Kimura's first player of the week award of her career, while Orris collects the third honor of her career.

Kimura, a junior from Placentia, Calif. (Ohio State), went 7-for-13 (.538) with two RBI, two runs scored and three doubles in four games last week. She recorded at least one hit in each of the four contests, including three multiple-hit games.

In the 3-2 victory over Mississippi State, Kimura went 1-for-3 and scored the winning run. She also collected an RBI and a double in the game as well as throwing out three Bulldogs on the base paths. In the nightcap vs. Mississippi State, Kimura went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run in the Rebels 2-0 win. UNLV lost the final two games of the weekend to Penn State (1-0 and 5-4), but Kimura continued to hit the ball well, going 2-for-3 in game one vs. the Nittany Lions and 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double in the second game of the doubleheader.

Orris, a junior from Brea, Calif. (Brea Olinda HS), went 1-1 in three appearances for UNLV over the weekend. She collected her third complete game and second shutout of the season in the 2-0 victory vs. Mississippi State. In seven innings of work, Orris faced 26 batters and allowed just three hits, while striking out three and walking two. She came in relief of teammate Kacey Ellis in the bottom of the third inning vs. Penn State trailing 1-0. Orris pitched the final 4.2 innings, giving up two hits and a walk to the 15 batters faced, while striking out two in the one-run defeat. In the second game of the twinbill vs. the Nittany Lions, she made her second straight relief appearance. Orris entered the game in the top of the first inning with two outs and scattered four hits and three unearned runs over the final 5.1 frames in the Rebels 5-4 loss.
