COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State second baseman Sarah Hershman and BYU left-handed pitcher Ariel Capra have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Hershman, a San Diego native, went 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate, with three doubles, three RBI and one run scored as she garnered all-tournament and top hitter honors at last weekend's Compass Bank Invitational in Waco, Texas. She had a hit in four of five games, with three multiple-hit games, starting with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and an RBI in a 8-1 win over Oakland. Later that day against Creighton, Hershman batted 2-for-3, driving in a run and scoring a run of her own to lead the Aztecs to a 3-1 victory. Against Stephen F. Austin, she again went 2-for-3, pounding two doubles and driving in a run in the Aztecs 3-1 win. Hershman didn't strike out in 13 at-bats and defensively she was responsible for eight putouts and 10 assists as San Diego State went 3-2 at the tournament.

Capra, a sophomore from Kingwood, Texas, went 2-1 with a 0.77 ERA in her three appearances for the Cougars last week, allowing two earned runs and three walks while striking out nine. In the first game of a doubleheader against Loyola Marymount, Capra pitched five innings, allowing four hits, one walk and no runs, while striking out three in BYU's 5-0 win. Against No. 7 California, she had a strong outing, striking out three batters and giving up seven hits in 7.1 innings of work as the Cougars fell to the Golden Bears, 1-0, in eight innings. Capra ended her week with a six-inning performance against Providence, striking out three while giving up four hits and two runs in a 12-2 Cougar victory. Capra, who only appeared in two games last season, is 3-1 this season with a 2.67 ERA.
