Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week UNLV's Glenn and Kerrigan take home conference honors.
Feb. 20, 2002 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV third baseman Pauline Glenn and right-handed pitcher Jackie Kerrigan have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Glenn helped the Rebels to a 4-1 record last weekend at the UNLV Classic, batting .455 (5-for-11), with two home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored, a double and a 1.091 slugging percentage. The Tucson, Ariz. native had at least one hit in four out of five games and scored at least one run in every game. She started the week with a 1-for-3 performance against No. 13 Alabama, belting a solo home run and scoring a run in the Rebels only loss of the tournament. In the Rebels 10-5 win over Central Michigan, Glenn went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, two RBI and two runs scored. The freshman capped off the tournament with her best performance of the weekend batting 2-for-2, driving in two runs and scoring a run of her own in the 7-3 Rebel victory over Cal Poly. Glenn leads UNLV in runs (10), home runs (3), RBI (11), slugging percentage (.625), walks (11), and on-base percentage (.488).
Kerrigan, a Eugene, Ore. native, recorded two wins and two saves in four appearances, all Rebel wins, at the UNLV Classic. She gave up nine hits, four runs and struck out 18 batters in 15.2 innings of work. Against Kansas, she claimed her first collegiate victory with a 13-strikeout complete game, giving up five hits and three runs. The next day against Texas Tech, Kerrigan came on in relief and gave up only one hit to collect the first save of her career, then followed that by pitching six innings, giving up two hits, one run and striking out three in a 10-5 victory over Central Michigan. The freshman ended her weekend earning a save in UNLV's 7-3 win over Cal Poly. On the season, Kerrigan has a 1.96 ERA in 25 innings of work with 30 strikeouts, allowing a team-low 16 hits.
