Colorado Springs, Colo. UNLV's Rachel Goodpaster and New Mexico's Kathy Moore, both junior, are this week's Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

A native of Fair Oaks, Calif., Goodpaster helped UNLV post a 2-3 record at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz., where the Rebels faced four nationally ranked opponents this past week. UNLV is 4-3 overall after the first two weeks of action.

During the tournament, Goodpaster batted .500 (7-for-14) over five games with two home runs and one double for a 1.000 slugging percentage. She collected three RBI and scored three runs. Defensively, the shortstop made six putouts and 18 assists with just one error. She collected at least one hit in each game and started the weekend with a 2-for-2 outing that included a home run in a 12-2 loss to No. 21 Stanford. She went 2-for-3 in the Rebels 7-6 win over No. 13 Nebraska and 1-for-3 with a double and RBI in the victory over No. 16 Massachusetts. Goodpaster was one of four Rebels to hit a home run in a 9-7 loss to Utah State. She concluded the tournament with one of the Rebels' two hits in a 10-1 loss to No. 4 Arizona.

Moore, from Garden Grove, Calif., came in to earn the victory in relief during the second game of the Lobos sweep of New Mexico State on Feb. 9. UNM claimed game one, 6-3, and game two, 7-2, in nine innings and now owns a 6-2 overall record after the first two weeks of play.

Moore was called into duty with runners on first and second in the top of the seventh inning after New Mexico State had tied the score at two all. She got the groundout to end the inning and worked a total of two-and-one-third innings. Moore struck out two, both in the final inning, walked one and allowed just one hit the rest of the way. In addition to her pitching performances, Moore, who also plays first base, collected six RBI, a homerun and a double while batting .300 in the two games. She owns a 3-0 record and 1.94 ERA in 21.2 innings on the season.
