Colorado Springs, Colo. - New Mexico catcher/utility Tiffani Chambers and San Diego State right handed pitcher Sandra Durazo are the Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Chambers, a junior from San Diego, Calif. (Scripps Ranch HS), hit .600 (6-10) over five games last week at the Diamond Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. She had at least one hit in each of the five games and struck out just one time. In the Lobos 4-0 win over vs. Mississippi, she went 1-for-2 and had six putouts. In the two losses to Kansas (6-7, 1-2), Chambers went 2-for-4. She ended the week a perfect 3-for-3 in two games vs. 14th-ranked Cal State Fullerton. In UNM's 10-2 loss to the Titans, she went 1-for-2 with a run scored, while connecting on both at-bats with a run scored and two RBI in the Lobos 11-3 victory over Cal State Fullerton.

Durazo, a senior from Granada Hills, Calif. (Kennedy), went 2-0 at the Long Beach State Tournament last weekend and posted a 0.93 ERA. In the Aztecs season opening 2-1 win vs. Illinois-Chicago, she pitched the entire eight innings, allowing five hits, one earned run and three walks, while striking out four. Durazo gave up the lone run in the bottom of the of the second inning, but shutout the Flames over the final six frames. She captured her second victory in SDSU's 3-1 win over No. 22 Long Beach State. Durazo pitched her second consecutive complete game, yielding just one earned run off of four hits, while walking none and striking out one. San Diego State is currently 4-1 overall in 2001.
