Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Led by MWC Freshman of the Year Marissa Nichols' two solo home runs and MWC Pitcher of the Year Jacque Kerrigan's two-hit, complete-game shutout, the UNLV Rebels advance to their first ever Mountain West Conference championship game after beating the No. 3 seed Colorado State Rams, 4-0, Friday night at SDSU Softball Stadium.

The Rebels started the game off with a three-run first inning and never looked back. Nichols led off the game with her 17th home run of the year. After back-to-back singles by freshmen Caitlyn Paus and Brittany Meade, fellow freshman Rosa Ordaz plated the two on her double down the right field line to put UNLV up 3-0. Nichols put the game away with her second solo homer of the contest in the bottom of the fifth off of CSU reliever Jessica Strickland.

Kerrigan carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and ended up with nine strikeouts on the way to her 28th victory of the season and second complete game in as many days. The Rebels pushed their record to 43-16 this season, while Colorado State completed its year at 30-22. JayCee Wood (3-4) was credited with the loss for the Rams.

UNLV (43-16) will take on top-seeded BYU in the championship game Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at SDSU Softball Stadium, with the winner of the game receiving an automatic bid into the 2005 NCAA Softball Championship.
