Fort Collins, Colo. - Fourth-seeded Utah (22-31) won their second game of the day, knocking off top-seeded Colorado State (40-14), 2-1 to advance to Saturday's championship game. Utah's Brianna Gourdin (17-7) won her second game of the day, pitching scattering three hits over seven innings. She struck out four and walked one.

Utah got off to a hot start, scoring once in the top of the first. Melissa Stahnke drove home Glennis Donnelly with a one out double off of Ram starter Megan Masser (12-5), who took the loss. Donnelly would later homer in the third inning, providing Gourdin all the run support she'd need.

Colorado State scored their only run in the second on a Rachelle Padeway's sacrifice fly. Glennis responded by striking out Stephanie Roberts, stranding a runner on third. The Rams would only collect one more hit in the game, a single in the ninth.

Notes:

Brianna Gourdin went 2-0 today, striking out nine while walking one. She allowed only seven hits and one earned run.

This year is the fifth year the number one seed has failed to win the tournament.
