SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore Ryanne Hodgins' RBI single in the bottom of the 13th inning pushed fifth-seeded New Mexico to a 3-2 victory over sixth-seeded San Diego State Friday afternoon at the MWC Softball Championship in San Diego.

The loss ended San Diego State's season at 27-30 while New Mexico remained alive in the double-elimination tournament.

New Mexico jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning thanks to Kristina Schmallen. Schmallen's RBI triple to right center plated Amy Ray. Cassie Chavez brought Schmallen in two at-bats later with her RBI single, putting the Lobos up 2-0.

San Diego State answered back in the top of the fourth as Tariyn Casillas singled, advanced to second on an errant throw by Amy Ray, advanced to third, then scored on an error by Schmallen. The Aztecs tied the score at two apiece on Chrissie Markham's lead off home run in the top of the fifth.

The two teams went scoreless over the next seven innings before the Lobos finally took control of the game, starting with Christina Rios' single to start the bottom of the 13th. Becky Dover, who pinch ran for Rios, advanced to second on Liz Young's sacrifice bunt and came around to score of Hodgins' single to left field, narrowly beating out the throw to home.

Ashley Perkins (5-14) picked up the victory for New Mexico, who is now 16-33 overall this season. Cori Janelli was credited with the loss for the Aztecs, who end their season with a 27-30 overall record. The Lobos move on to face BYU later on Friday evening.

Janelli had retired 27 straight Lobos, heading into the 13th inning.
