San Diego State Moves On To Face Colorado State In Championship Game Aztecs to face Rams for NCAA automatic bid.

SAN DIEGO - Top-seeded San Diego State defeated BYU, 3-1, to advance to the championship game at the Mountain West Conference Softball Championship in San Diego. The Aztecs will take on Colorado State at 2:45 p.m., with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. San Diego State jumped out to an early lead on BYU second baseman Milli Jones's error, which allowed Joann Figueroa to score, making the score 1-0 after an inning. BYU got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Lauren Watson reached base on a single and advanced to second on a Brooke Cadiente single to right. Watson then crossed the plate on an error by Aztecs shortstop Bianca Cruz, tying the score at one. SDSU put the game away in its half of the fourth as Figueroa doubled in Jennifer Funk and Bridgette Caron to make the score 3-1. Figueroa finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Celena Velasquez held BYU down the rest of the game to earn her 15th win of the season. Brooke Boyce was credited with the loss for the Cougars, who finish with the regular season with a 36-17 record. The Cougars started off the day with a 2-1 victory over SDSU to force the elimination contest. Senior Brooke Cadiente started gave BYU its first run of the game on her RBI single, in the top of the fourth off of Aztec hurler Bre DeSanta. The Aztecs answered back in their half of the fifth as sophomore Jennifer Funk crossed the plate on a Joann Figueroa double. BYU answered in its next at-bat as Cynthia Fallowfield hit a home run down the left field line, making the score 2-1.
Freshman Brooke Boyce was credited with the victory for the Cougars, while DeSanta got the loss.
