Colorado State Advances to Championship Game
Rams to face BYU-SDSU winner Saturday at 2 p.m.

SAN DIEGO - The Colorado State Rams advance to their first ever Mountain West Conference championship game after beating UNLV, 7-1, Friday afternoon at the MWC Softball Championships in San Diego.
The Rams started the game off with back-to-back three run innings and never looked back. In the bottom of the first, catcher Kerry Farrell reached on an error and advanced to second on a Jennifer Mahoney single. She later scored on a Ricki Walker double to left center. Walker and Mahoney crossed the plate on a Melanie Laffoon single, making the score 3-0.
Sophomore Steph Roberts started the Rams second inning with a double to left center, which was follwed by another double by Farrell, scoring Roberts. After a Jennifer Mahoney strike out, Ricki Walker smashed a two-run homer to left, making it 6-0. CSU completed its scoring on a Melanie Laffoon solo homer in the fifth.
Rams junior Megan Masser held the Rebels in check until the top of the sixth, when a Morgan Bostwick double plated Joanna Jackson for UNLV's only run of the game.
Masser was credited with her 19th win of the season and second complete game victory in as many days. The Rams pushed their record to 36-13 this year, while UNLV completed its season at 21-39.
Colorado State will take on the winner of the San Diego State-BYU game in the championship game scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at SDSU Field. If the Cougars defeat the Aztecs in the 9 a.m. game on Saturday, they will play again at 11:30 a.m. for the right to advance to the championship.
