San Diego State Outlasts New Mexico in 14 Innings
Aztecs will take on BYU-Utah winner at 4:30 p.m.

SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Danielle Touhey's RBI single in the bottom of the 14th pushed top-seeded San Diego State to a 4-3 victory over fifth-seeded New Mexico Friday morning at the MWC Softball Championship in San Diego. The 14 inning contest, a new Mountain West Conference Softball Championship record for innings played, was continued from Thursday afternoon's contest, which was called off due to darkness.
The Aztecs took an early 1-0 lead in their half of the first inning when Erin Mahoney crossed the plate on a Jacque Vaca single to right field.
UNM got things going in the top of the sixth inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, freshman Stephanie Kennedy blasted a home run to center, giving the Lobos the 3-1 advantage.
SDSU answered back in its half of the sixth as Vaca hit her second RBI single of the game to bring the score to 3-2. The Aztecs added the tying run in the bottom of the seventh on freshman Bianca Cruz's solo homer, pushing the game into extra frames. Vaca, who finished the game 4-for-6 with two RBI, started the Aztecs half of the 14th with an infield single. She advanced to second on a Kelcy Murphy ground out to second, then moved to third on Bridgette Caron's sacrifice bunt. That set the stage for Touhey's game-winning single and RBI.
MWC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year Celena Velasquez picked up the victory for the Aztecs, who are now 37-17 overall this season. The Lobos dropped to 25-36-1 on the year and will face UNLV in an elimination game scheduled for 10:45 Friday morning. The Aztecs will take on the winner of the BYU-Utah game in the final game on Friday.
