SDSU and New Mexico Contest Suspended Due to Darkness Game to resume Friday at 9 a.m.
May 8, 2003
SAN DIEGO - With the score knotted at three apiece after seven innings, the game between top-seeded San Diego State and fifth-seeded New Mexico was halted due to darkness. The game will resume at 9 a.m. Friday morning at SDSU Field on the campus of San Diego State University. The Aztecs took an early 1-0 lead in their half of the first inning when Erin Mahoney crossed the plate on a Jacque Vaca single to right field. UNM got things going in the top of the sixth inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, freshman Stephanie Kennedy blasted a home run to center, giving the Lobos the 3-1 advantage. SDSU answered back in their half of the sixth as Vaca hit her second RBI single of the game to bring the score to 3-2. The Aztecs added the tying run in the bottom of the seventh on freshman Bianca Cruz's solo homer. After the completion of the inning, the umpires decided to call the game.
Game Five of the MWC Softball Championship, originally scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday morning, will now start approximately 20 minutes after the completion of the Aztec-Lobo contest.
