LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- New Mexico softball plated five runs on six hits to defeat UNLV, 5-4, Saturday night in Mountain West Conference action. The Lobos have won their last three MWC games a move over .500 for the first time this season. UNM has an overall record of 18-17 and takes command of second place in the conference with a 7-3 mark. UNLV falls to 32-24 overall and 7-5 in league.

New Mexico rallied for three runs in the top of the first inning. The Lobos loaded the bases after walks by sophomore Samantha Hughes and senior Amy Ray. Rubalcava reached on a UNLV fielding error. Junior Lindsey Elcess and freshman Katie Gilmore both had RBI's in the inning. Gilmore had the only hit for UNM in the first on a shot through the left side of the infield.

The Lobos added another run in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Freshman Erin Brandow was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning. Brandow eventually came around to score on a Rubalcava fielders choice to short right field.

The Rebels answered with a run in the second and two more in the third. Bri Bernardi scored the only run in the second for UNLV on a solo home run to left field. In the third, the Rebels capitalized on three hits including a double by Kelli Fangonilo.

UNM plated its final run in the fourth inning on a fielders choice by Ray that scored Hughes.

UNLV tried to mount a comeback in the fifth after scoring a run but Ninemire cruised through the final two innings for the victory.

Ninemire goes the distance for the 11th time this season and moves to 12-9 overall. The Prosper, Texas native, allowed four runs on six hits and did not allow a walk.

Rubalcava led UNM with a 2-for-4 performance offensively with a run and an RBI. Gilmore had her eighth multiple hit game after going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Elcess extended her hitting streak to a season long nine games with her single in the eighth inning.
