Rams Sweep Utah State CSU improves to 27-10.

LOGAN, Utah - The Colorado State softball team swept the Aggies of Utah State in the first two games of a six-game road trip on Thursday. The Rams won 7-2 and 4-0 behind complete game performances from freshmen pitchers Genevieve Kelly and JayCee Wood. Kelly, who pitched the first complete game of her career, picked up the win in the first game allowing only five hits and two runs while striking out three in her seven innings of work. The win moved Kelly to 7-3 overall on the season for Colorado State. After finding themselves down 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning, the Rams scored four runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth innings and didn't look back for the remainder of the afternoon. Leading the way for the Rams at the plate were sophomore Kerry Farrell and junior Ricki Walker. Farrell went 2-for-5, scored one run and recored two RBI in the game one victory including an RBI bunt single to bring in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning. Walker finished the first game 2-for-3 from the plate with three RBI for the Rams. Sophomore Steph Roberts aslo crossed the plate twice for Colorado State Wood picked up the win in game two after pitching a complete game shutout. The shutout was the 12th of the season for the Rams, giving up only three hits and striking out one batter. Wood's record now stands at 4-0 on season. Farrell came up big again for the Rams in game two going 2-for-4 from the plate, scoring another run, and adding two more RBI to her totals. Roberts was 1-for-4 with a run scored. The Rams record moved to 19-2 when Roberts scores at least one run.
Colorado State's record now stands at 27-10 this season and they are
currently in second place in the Mountain West Conference with a record
of 6-4. The Rams will continue with games three and four of their Utah
road trip with a double header against BYU beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Friday. The Cougars are currently a 1/2 game behind the Rams in the
Mountain West standings and the two teams split a double header in their
first meeting in Fort Collins earlier this month.
