SALT LAKE CITY --- New Mexico softball swept Utah in a doubleheader Thursday at Ute Field in Salt Lake City. The Lobos hit four homers on the day and took game one, 3-1 before winning game two, 6-5. UNM was led by an aggressive offensive attack that pounded out 15 hits and plated nine runs on the day. The Lobos improve 14-14 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain West Conference with the win, while Utah falls to 20-19-1 and 1-7 in the conference.

New Mexico hit two home runs in game one to defeat Utah, 3-1, Thursday at Ute Field. Senior Becky Dover snapped a scoreless game in the fourth inning with a two-run homer to right field to put the Lobos ahead, 2-0. Sophomore Samantha Hughes blasted a solo home run to right center field in the fifth to extend UNM's lead to, 3-0.

Utah scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run down the right field line by Meghan Crouse. Meghan Dyer took the loss for the Utes and fell to 14-12.

Junior Kelly Ninemire threw a complete game in the game one holding the Utes to a run on two hits. Ninemire moved to 8-8 with the victory and recorded four strikeouts.

The Lobos took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two on a bunt single by senior Amy Ray to score Hughes from third.

Utah came back to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run homer by Staci Hemingway. Hemingway's shot scored Andrea Hoffman, who reached on a double to left center field.

UNM tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth on an RBI single through the left side by junior Ashley Allen. Allen scored junior Lindsey Elcess from third. The Lobos plated the go ahead run in the fifth on a Utah error that allowed senior Ryanne Hodgins to score.

Freshman Katie Gilmore added an insurance run for New Mexico in the sixth with a solo homer to right field. Gilmore blasted her fourth homer of the year and picked up her 15th RBI.

The Utes tied the game with two runs in the sixth on a UNM fielding error but it wouldn't last for long. In the top of the seventh, Ray hit a game-winning two-run homer to left field to score sophomore Analise Rubalcava. Rubalcava reached on a two-out double to right center.

Utah rallied in the seventh scoring a run but stranded the go ahead runners on base. UNM held on to win 6-5 and sweept the doubleheader.

Ninemire threw her second complete game of the day and moved to 9-8 this season. Ninemire allowed six runs on 11 hits in game two and struck out six batters.

The Lobos continue MWC action Friday at BYU. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. at Miller Park with a complete recap and stats posted on www.GoLobos.com.
