Stats

The Colorado State University softball team continued its winning streak, beating No. 18 Oregon 6-1 and Cal Poly 5-4 on Saturday. The Rams are now 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

In their first game of the day, several errors by the Ducks put the Rams on base. Scoreless in the first inning, the Rams took control in the second. Freshman Kim Klabough singled after junior Stacey Leigh reached on an error. Oregon errors allowed junior Brittany Huerta to reach third on a single and score both Klabough and Leigh.

Sophomore Lauren Cusick led off with her first home run of the season to post the only run in the third inning.

Senior transfer Tara Harbert started the fifth inning with a walk before stealing second. Cusick followed with a single before she stole second, the first of her career. Freshman Renee Welty rounded out the scoring with a home run and three RBI, both career highs.

Klabough picked up her third complete game victory, allowing one run on eight hits and striking out five.

The Rams notched their second victory of the day against the Cal Poly Mustangs, scoring early. The Rams opened up the first inning with Welty and Cusick scoring on freshman Shannon Causgrove's single.

In the second, Harbert singled to center field before stealing her first base of the game to advance to second. Junior Jessica Strickland singled to center field and advanced to second on the throw, which brought home Harbert. Cusick followed with a double to score Strickland. Both Welty and Leigh singled to score Cusick.

Strickland picked up her fourth complete game victory, pitching all seven innings and allowing four runs while striking out three.

The Rams look to sweep the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic Sunday with a final game against No. 14 Oregon State at 11 a.m PT.
