Nov. 13, 2009
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU junior Jackie Torda was named a finalist for the Soccer News Net Player of the Year Award Friday morning. By being named a finalist, Torda is recognized as one of the top 38 players in the nation. Torda, who was recently named second team all-conference, netted four goals on the season, while dishing out one assist. The junior led the TCU offensive attack during conference play, ranking in the top 10 in four different offensive categories. She netted two of the Horned Frogs three goals, including the game-winner in a 3-2 overtime victory at UNLV on Oct. 23 to earn Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. Torda closed the season ranked No. 6 all-time in career goals scored with 16 for her career. The editors of each of the six sites in the Soccer News Net network nominated up to six local players for the award, each of which will be eligible for the regional player of the year award. The nominations included athletes playing at colleges within each site's coverage area, as well as athletes from the area playing elsewhere in the country. A dozen additional at-large selections rounded out the nominations. Fans from across the country will be able to vote for the top collegiate player. Voting will continue until Dec. 15, and will be conducted on Dallas Soccer News.
Online fan voting will account for 40 percent of the total toward the award. The remaining 60 percent of the vote will be cast by the editorial staffs of the six web sites.
