COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU will represent the Mountain West Conference in the 2007 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. The Cougars earned the conference's automatic bid to the tournament after defeating regular-season champion UNLV, 2-1, in the MWC Soccer Championship Final, Nov. 10, in Provo, Utah.

BYU (17-3-2) will see first-round action in College Station, Texas. The Cougars will face Texas in the teams' third-ever meeting on Thursday, Nov. 15. The winner of the BYU/Texas game will play either host Texas A&M or Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Nov. 17.

BYU is making its 10th appearance in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship and eighth as a member of the Mountain West. In BYU's last appearance, the Cougars fell to Portland, 2-1, in the first-round. The Cougars best finish in the NCAA Tournament was an Elite Eight appearance in 2003.

With BYU in the 2007 field, the Mountain West Conference now has 20 appearances all-time in the NCAA Soccer Championship. Overall, the conference holds a 10-17-3 record in the tournament.

All first and second round matches in the 64-team tournament will take place at campus sites on either Thursday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 17, or Friday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 18. Third-round matches will be played on campus sites Nov. 23, 24 or 25, while quarterfinal matches will be Nov. 30, 31 or Dec. 1. The 26th annual NCAA Division I Women's College Cup will be played December 7 and 9 at the Aggie Soccer Stadium in College Station, Texas. Texas A&M University is the host of the championship.

The four No. 1 seeds in the 2007 NCAA Championship are North Carolina, Stanford, Penn State and UCLA. In the tournament, 30 teams received automatic bids, while 34 teams received an at-large berth. The ACC leads all conferences with eight selections.
