The Cougars are 2-0 (1-0 at home) all-time against Boston University. The teams last played in 2001, with BYU winning 4-0.

BYU is 2-3-2 all-time (2-0-1 at home) against USC. The last time the Cougars faced the Trojans was in 2004 in Los Angeles, as the teams battled to a 1-1 tie in two overtimes. USC is the defending National Champion, defeating Florida State 2-0 to win the 2007 College Cup.

BYU is making its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA postseason. The Cougars have failed to advance to the second round in the previous three years.

BYU has made the most NCAA appearances of any MWC team, competing 10 times since 1997. The Cougars have advanced to the postseason nine of the 10 years as a member of the Mountain West.

The Cougars best finish in the NCAA Tournament was an Elite Eight appearance in 2003. BYU ultimately fell to Connecticut, 3-1, in Storrs, Conn.

BYU has won six MWC Championship titles, the most of any league school. Utah (2003, 2004) and UNLV (2005, 2006) have each won two apiece.

With BYU in the 2008 field, the Mountain West Conference now has 21 appearances all-time in the NCAA Soccer Championship. Overall, the conference holds a 10-18-3 record in the tournament.

The 2008 NCAA Tournament marks the second consecutive year that the MWC did not receive multiple bids to the championship. BYU was the lone team to advance to the tournament in 2007.
