A pair of goals from Utah's Lauren Hair and Chelsea Card propelled the #5 Utes over #4 Wyoming during the first game of the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship. With the 2-0 victory, Utah advances to the semifinals to face #1 UNLV tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. MT. The game will air live on The Mtn.

The shutout extends the Utes' record to 12-4-4 overall. Wyoming retires for the season at 9-10-0 overall.

"I feel like it was a great show of character from our team," Utah Head Coach Rich Manning said. "We just hung in there, it wasn't an exciting game, it wasn't an open attacking game, it was a game of good teamwork and hard work and we feel good about that."

The Utes led 1-0 heading into the second half after Hair scored her fourth goal of the season. Wyoming goalkeeper Ashley Shepherd came to the top of the box to stop the ball. Hair took advantage of the open net and knocked the ball in off an assist from Kelly Isleib.

Utah extended its lead with a header from Card during the 55th minute. A shot from Adele Letro rebounded off of Shepherd to give Card a chance to place the ball in the back of the goal.

Utah avenged its last match up against Wyoming with the win. The two teams met Nov. 3, where Wyoming came out on top, 4-1, to jump ahead of the Utes in the conference standings.

Wyoming fought hard but was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. The Cowgirls had seven shots during the game, four of which came during the second half. Utah out shot Wyoming, 10-7 and edged them in corner kicks, 3-2.
