    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU claimed its third consecutive regular-season Mountain West Conference women's soccer title with a 3-0 win over Utah Saturday. The Cougars went 5-1 in league play, 11-6-1 overall, and will be the No. 1 seed in this week's MWC Women's Soccer Championship in Las Vegas, Nev.

    New Mexico placed second with a 3-2-1 record and posted its highest finish in its three seasons in the MWC. Utah and UNLV tied for third place with 3-3 marks, but the Rebels secured the third seed since they defeated the Utes in head-to-head competition earlier this season. The fifth seed will be San Diego State who finished with a 2-3-1 league record. Wyoming and Air Force tied for 6th place with identical winning percentages of .333. The Cowgirls went 1-3-2 in league play, while the Falcons went 2-4. Wyoming received the sixth-seed in the tournament since it defeated Air Force, 1-0, this past weekend.

    The conference tournament will take place on Nov. 7-10 at Peter Johann Memorial Field on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. The opening match will pit 4th-seeded Utah vs. No. 5-seed San Diego State Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 1:00 p.m. Other matches on Wednesday will include, No. 2-seed New Mexico vs. No. 7-seed Air Force at 4 p.m. and No. 3-seed UNLV vs. No. 6-seed Wyoming at 7 p.m. BYU will receive a first round bye and play the winner of the Utah vs. San Diego State match on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. The other semifinal match is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 8.

    The Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship match is slated for Noon on Saturday, Nov. 10. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid into the 2001 NCAA Women's College Cup.
