COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of New Mexico freshman Kelli Cornell earned her third Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week award today as announced by the conference office. Cornell posted her 12th win and shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over UNLV on Oct. 31. She faced 12 shots and made two saves on the night.

"It is really exciting to win this award," said Cornell. "Helping the team win has been really important to me this season. Our defense did a great job stopping UNLV this weekend. We made it to the conference tournament and we are just looking forward to playing hard this next week."

Cornell added to her own school record for shutouts in a season posting her 12th. The win puts her in a tie for second place all-time at UNM for wins in a season. Cornell is currently in fifth place all-time at UNM for shutouts in a career and is in sixth place all-time for wins in a career.
