2011 All-Mountain West Women's Soccer Teams Announced New Mexico's Jennifer Williams and Kelli Cornell Named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year
Nov. 1, 2011 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West announced its 2011 women's soccer awards today. The league's seven head coaches selected the all-Conference first and second teams, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year. Senior forward Jennifer Williams of New Mexico garnered MW Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second-straight year, while Lobo junior goalkeeper Kelli Cornell earned the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season. Wyoming forward Sara Paul was tabbed the league’s Freshman of the Year, and Wyoming head coach Danny Sanchez collected his first MW Coach of the Year accolade. After going 1-3-3 in Conference play in 2010, Sanchez led the Cowgirls to a 3-1-2 mark this season. Williams was tabbed as the MW Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Lobos to the No. 1 seed in the 2011 MW Championship. She finished first in the Mountain West in points (13) and goals (6) through six regular-season Conference games. Cornell earned Mountain West Defensive Player of Year honors after pitching three shutouts during league play. The junior netminder allowed three total goals and posted a .857 save percentage in six league contests. Paul was named MW Freshman of the Year after tallying five points (three assists, one goal) for the Cowgirls during league play. All-MW First Team All-MW Second Team
