BYU CATURES SECOND STRAIGHT CONFERENCE TITLE
BYU claimed its second consecutive regular-season Mountain West
Conference women's soccer title in 2000. The Cougars, ranked No. 11 in a
country by Soccer Buzz Magazine, went undefeated at 6-0 in league play
and will be the No. 1 seed in this week's MWC Women's Soccer Championship.
Utah and San Diego State tied for second place with 4-2 conference records. The Utes received the second seed in the MWC Championship, while the Aztecs will be the third seed since Utah defeated SDSU in head-to-head competition. UNLV will be the fourth seed after completing its conference slate at 3-3. Air Force and New Mexico are in a fifth-place tie with 2-4 records. The Falcons earned the No. 5 seed with a regular-season victory over the Lobos. New Mexico will be the No. 6, while Wyoming completes the field as the No. 7 seed.

The Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship will have digital photography available on its website after each match. Century Mark
BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood became the first women's soccer coach in the MWC to reach the 100-win mark for her career. Rockwood captured victory 100 as the Cougars defeated Milwaukee-Wisconsin, 2-0, on Sept. 23. She is currently 105-25-2 in just over five seasons in Provo. Entering this season, Rockwood was ranked fifth among active coaches by winning percentage. She has averaged 18.6 wins per season over the past five years, which ranks second behind only Anson Dorrance of North Carolina for wins per season. Dorrance has won an average of 22.2 matches per season.
Chuck Clegg is seven wins away from his 100th career victory at San Diego State with a 93-51-5 record. The Aztecs have three regular-season matches remaining and the conference tournament.
COUGARS RUNNING ON ALL CYLINDERS
BYU is ranked 11th in the nation by Soccer Buzz and is 16-3-1 overall. The Cougars went 6-0 in conference play and outscored their league opponents 26-4. They tallied at least four goals in each of the six constests and posted two shutouts. BYU has also dominated its non-conference opponents, outscoring them 41-14 and recorded four shutouts.
South FIELD DOMINANCE
BYU has been unbeatable on South Field and finished its second straight regular season undefeated at home. The Cougars have not lost on South Field in 21 consecutive home matches. BYU is currently 20-0-1 on South Field the past two seasons with its lone tie coming against then-10th-ranked Southern California (1-1 on Sept. 28). The Cougars went 12-0 at home in 1999 and 7-0-1 this season. The last time BYU lost at home was on Nov. 7, 1998 to San Diego State (2-1 in ot) in the championship match of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The last regular season defeat on South Field was also to the Aztecs (1-0 on Oct. 24, 1998).
RECORD BREAKING REBELS
The UNLV women's soccer team has reached new heights in 2000. In just its third year of existence, the Rebels are breaking new ground with each match played. UNLV went 11-8 during the regular season, breaking its old record of eight wins set in the program's inaugural season in 1998. The Rebels are also 4-6 in road/neutral site matches this season. In the past two years, the Rebels never won more than three road/neutral matches. UNLV also set another school mark for home wins in 2000 with seven, breaking its previous high was five.
Cowgirls RECORD HISTORIC YEAR
The 2000 Wyoming women's soccer team became the winning team in the schools' young soccer history with its 2-0 win at Idaho State on Sept. 30. The Cowgirls have won seven matches this season, breaking the old record of five set in 1998. Wyoming is also 3-4-1 on the road this season, marking its best record away from Laramie in the program's history. Prior to this season the Cowgirls were 2-47 on the road.
MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE FIRST
San Diego State freshman forward Kim Castellanos became the first player in MWC history to record back-to-back hat tricks. Castellanos accomplished the feat in victories over New Mexico and UNLV. Castellanos currently has 10 goals on the season, setting a new MWC freshman record. This is the second conference record she has broken in 2000. Earlier this year she established a new league record for shots in a match with 10 vs. Wyoming.
Streaks
BYU holds the league's longest active scoring streak at 18 and win streak at nine.
BYU sophomore midfielder Jeni Willardson is on a five match scoring streak. She has recorded a goal in three consecutive matches and has totaled four goals and two assists overall.
Stephanie Rader, a senior forward from Air Force, has scored three goals in the two matches.
Utah sophomore forward Shauna Gurr has scored a goal in thee straight matches and has recorded at least one point in the last five contests.
MWC Quick Shots
Air Force junior midfielder Beth Boyer recorded one assist last week and now holds the top spot on the Academy career assist list with 16. Boyer is just one assist shy of breaking the Falcon single-season record of eight ...BYU leads the league in every offense team category. On the individual side, BYU holds the top spot in six of the eight offensive categories...New Mexico's last seven goals have been scored by seven different players...San Diego State is 1-9 on the road this season. The Aztecs lone victory came vs. Navy in a neutral site match on Sept. 1 ...UNLV has started slow in the first half of matches this season being outscored 19-8. The Rebels have come to life though in the second outscoring its opponents 16-12 ...Utah has won four matches in a row heading into the conferece tournament. The Utes longest win streak of the year is six matches (Sept. 15-28)...Wyoming matched the schools single-season shutout record with its fourth shutout of the season in the 6-0 win over South Alabama.
