Oct. 31, 2006 SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2006 women's soccer awards today at its pre-championship banquet in Salt Lake City, Utah. The league's eight head coaches selected the all-conference first and second teams, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year. The soccer championship begins Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Ute Field on the University of Utah campus.
Sophomore forward Adele Letro of Utah garnered MWC Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Ute senior goalkeeper Ashley Mason earned the MWC Defensive Player of the Year award. Andrea Willis of BYU and Kelly Isleib of Utah were selected as MWC Co-Freshmen of the Year, and Utah coach Rich Manning collected MWC Coach of the Year accolades for the third time as coach of the Utes. Utah won its third regular-season women's soccer championship this year.

Letro was tabbed as MWC Offensive Player of the Year after leading Utah to its third conference title and leading the league in goals (6) and points (12) in conference games. She also led the league in game-winning goals (5). Mason earned MWC Defensive Player of the Year honors as she led Utah to a perfect 7-0 record, including a school record seven straight shutouts.
