BYU Captures 2000 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Regular Season Title And Top Seed in Conference Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU claimed its second consecutive regular-season Mountain West Conference women's soccer title in 2000. The Cougars, ranked No. 11 in a country by Soccer Buzz Magazine, went undefeated at 6-0 in league play and will be the No. 1 seed in next week's MWC Women's Soccer Championship.

Utah and San Diego State tied for second place with 4-2 conference records. The Utes received the second seed in the MWC Championship, while the Aztecs will be the third seed since Utah defeated SDSU in head-to-head competition. UNLV will be the fourth seed after completing its conference slate at 3-3. Air Force and New Mexico are in a fifth-place tie with 2-4 records. The Falcons earned the No. 5 seed with a regular-season victory over the Lobos. New Mexico will be the No. 6, while Wyoming completes the field as the No. 7 seed.

The conference tournament will take place on Nov. 1-4 at Peter Johann Memorial Field on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. The opening match will pit 3rd-seeded San Diego State vs. No. 6 New Mexico on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 2:00 p.m. Other matches on Wednesday will include: No. 2 Utah vs. No. 7 Wyoming at 4:30 p.m. and No. 4 UNLV vs. No. 5 Air Force at 7 p.m. BYU will receive a first round bye and play the winner of the UNLV vs. Air Force match on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. The other semifinal match is set for 4 p.m. on Nov. 2.

The Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship match is slated for Noon on Saturday, Nov. 4. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid into the 2000 NCAA Women's College Cup.
