COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior forward Courtney Burns of San Diego State, freshman forward Katie Carney of UNLV and sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Mason of Utah have been named Mountain West Conference Players of the Week for women's soccer. Burns and Carney share offensive player honors, while Mason wins defensive player accolades. It is the first career honor for both Burns and Carney, while Mason wins her second career award.

Burns, a native of Grand Terrace, Calif., tallied both goals for San Diego State in a 2-0 victory over Air Force, Oct. 22. She scored her first goal at the 18-minute mark of the first half on a deflection from the Air Force goalkeeper. Burns tallied her second goal four minutes into the second half from 15 yards out. Burns is tied for the team lead with three goals on the year. San Diego State is 6-6-5 overall, 3-0-2 in the MWC. The Aztecs are tied for conference lead and play co-leader UNLV, Oct. 30.

Carney, from Lake Forest, Calif., also scored two goals against Air Force in UNLV's 3-0 win over the Falcons, Oct. 24. Both of Carney's goals came in the second half as she emerged off the bench as a force for the Rebels. She scored her first goal off a pass from Angie Inzana at 57:04, then later intercepted a pass from an Air Force defender to score unassisted in the 88th minute. Carney now leads the team with four goals and is second in points with nine. UNLV is now 11-3-2 overall, 4-1-0 in the MWC. The Rebels play San Diego State, Oct. 30.

Mason, a Sunnyvale, Calif., native, helped lead Utah to two victories this past week, including a 2-1 win over New Mexico, Oct. 21, and a 2-0 triumph over Wyoming, Oct. 23. She made a combined 14 saves in the two contests. On a very windy night against New Mexico, Mason made five saves. Against Wyoming, Mason also faced a strong wind and kept the game tied after a spectacular save on a one-on-one situation with Wyoming forward Mercy Adetoye. She made nine saves, including a diving save from 15 yards out in the final 10 minutes. It was her fourth shutout of the year. Utah is 11-4-2 on the year, 3-1-1 in the MWC.
