MW Women's Soccer Players of the Week
Oct. 24, 2011 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior midfielder Cat Walker has been selected as the Mountain West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while San Diego State freshman goalkeeper Rachel Boaz and UNLV sophomore goalkeeper Kylie Wassell have been tabbed MW Co-Defensive Players of the Week. A product of Folsom, Calif., Walker scored two game-winning goals to help the Aztecs secure road wins over Wyoming (1-0) and Air Force (1-0) last Friday and Sunday, respectively. Walker, who leads the team in goals and points this season, scored her first game-winner of the weekend against the Cowgirls, taking a pass from teammate Sophie Metz and placing the ball past the goalkeeper in the sixth minute of action. Two days later against the Falcons, Walker tallied the game-winning score 59 seconds into overtime. After receiving a pass from teammate Kelsey Booth, Walker found the back of the net from 10-yards out to help San Diego State tally its second road victory of the season. Boaz, from Murrieta, Calif., earned two shutout victories over Wyoming (W, 1-0) and Air Force (W, 1-0) last weekend. On Friday, Boaz stopped all four shots on goal and held the Cowgirls scoreless for the first time at home this season. Then at Air Force, Boaz made one save, which came at the 29:30 mark of the first half, in SDSU’s 1-0 overtime win. With two shutouts, Boaz has seven on the season and three in Mountain West play. Hailing from Las Vegas, Nev., Wassell pitched a pair of shutouts last weekend to help the Rebels claim a 1-0 win at Air Force on Oct. 21 and a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Wyoming on Oct. 23. Wassell did not allow a goal in a combined 200 minutes of work. She made five saves against the Falcons and the Cowgirls, respectively, to keep both opponents off the scoreboard.
