SDSU's Castellanos Named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Freshman garners honor following her back-to-back hat tricks last week.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State freshman forward Kim Castellanos has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week following her back-to-back hat tricks last week.

Castellanos, a product of Escondido, Calif., recorded the first consecutive match hat tricks in Mountain West Conference history in victories over New Mexico and UNLV. It was also the first time in Aztec history that a player has recorded two hat tricks in a career, let alone in back-to-back matches.

Castellanos accomplished the first of the two tricks in SDSU's 4-0 shutout of New Mexico on Friday. She scored the first three goals of the match, including the first goal that came just under five minutes into the contest (4:52). Castellanos repeated the three-goal performance in the Aztec's 4-1 victory over UNLV on Saturday. She opened the scoring for the second consecutive match just 2:30 into the contest. With the match tied at 2-2 in the second half, Castellanos scored her second goal and gave SDSU the lead at the 54:33 mark. She secured the Aztec victory and completed her back-to-back hat tricks in the 81st minute with an unassisted goal.

Castellanos currently has 10 goals on the season, setting a new MWC freshman record. This is the second conference record she has broken in 2000. Earlier this year she established a new league record for shots in a match with 10 vs. Wyoming.
