MWC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

UNLV's Shoughro, San Diego State's Walker and Yount honored

Oct. 20, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore Ashleigh Shoughro and San Diego State sophomore midfielder Cat Walker have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Aztec senior goalkeeper Christi Yount was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Shoughro, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., became UNLV's all-time leader for points scored in a season, after tallying seven points over the weekend to give her a school record 27 points in 2008. Against Wyoming, she scored the first goal of the game to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead. She then assisted on the third goal of the game to help secure the 3-1 win. Shoughro also earned the game-winner against Air Force, while tallying another score to gain her first multi-goal game of the season.

Walker, a Folsom, Calif., product, scored three goals and added an assist for seven points on the weekend. She connected on three of her five shot attempts over the weekend, scoring her first career hat trick in the 7-0 win vs. Air Force. She became the first Aztec to score three goals in one game since Kim Castellanos accomplished the feat in 2000. Against Wyoming, the midfielder assisted on Jillian Riker's score to give the Aztecs a 2-0 lead.

Yount, hailing from Mission Viejo, Calif., recorded her first two shutouts of the season in just her second and third starts in 2008. In the 7-0 victory over Air Force, she recorded four saves, while facing six total shots. Against Wyoming, she made a game-high five stops, while holding the Cowgirls scoreless in the 4-0 win.
