MW Women's Soccer Players of the Week
Oct. 17, 2011 COLORADO SPRINGs, Colo. - UNLV junior midfielder Macy Jo Harrison has been selected as the Mountain West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Boise State senior goalkeeper Liz Ruiz and Wyoming junior goalkeeper Courtney Merkle have been tabbed MW Co-Defensive Players of the Week. Harrison, a product of Napa, Calif., earned five points in UNLV’s 5-0 win over Boise State on Friday. Harrison posted the first two-goal performance of her career against the Broncos, tallying back-to-back goals four minutes apart midway through the second half. Harrison also notched an assist on the game’s first goal, finding teammate Caitlin Allen at the 12:30 mark. Hailing from Boise, Idaho, Ruiz pitched a shutout against San Diego State on Sunday, helping Boise State earn a 1-0 road victory over the Aztecs. After sitting out Friday’s match against UNLV (L, 0-5), Ruiz returned to the Bronco lineup and made six saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season. Merkle, from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, record a total of 14 saves and allowed a combined two goals as Wyoming posted a 1-0-1 record last weekend against New Mexico (T, 1-1 (2OT)) and TCU (W, 3-1). On Friday against the Lobos, Merkle had eight saves including a combined three stops in the two overtime periods. Against the Horned Frogs on Sunday, Merkle recorded six saves. The lone goal she allowed against the Horned Frogs came off a TCU penalty kick.
