MWC Quick Hits

Air Force

  • Air Force has won five of its last six matches at home.

  • AFA plays cross-town rival Colorado College at home on Friday, Oct. 17. The Falcons are 2-6 in eight meetings against the Tigers. Air Force has not beaten CC since a 2-0 decision in 1999.

  • Senior goalkeeper J.J. Wolf made 11 saves against BYU, her second highest total of the season and the most since she tied the school record of 16 saves against DePaul.

    BYU

  • Of the Cougars' nine goals on the week, seven were scored by different BYU players. Thirteen Cougars have now recorded a goal this season.

  • With wins over New Mexico and Air Force last weekend, BYU is riding a 15 match winning streak against MWC schools during the regular season and MWC Tournament matches. The last MWC team to beat the Cougars in the regular season or MWC Tournament was New Mexico on Oct. 19, 2001.

  • Head coach Jennifer Rockwood recorded her 150th career win in BYU's 2-1 win over USC on Oct. 3.

    New Mexico

  • Junior goalkeeper Kristen Winters is second in the MWC in saves per game (7.00) and third in total saves (77).

    San Diego State

  • SDSU's 25 shots against Wyoming were the most taken since Sept. 2, 2001, when the Aztecs took 34 against Eastern Washington.

  • Defender Amanda Swiader scored her first goal of the season and second of her career in Friday's match against Colorado College.

  • With its overtime match against CC on Friday, SDSU played three consecutive overtime matches for only the second time in the program's history. The Aztecs played three consecutive extra sessions in 1992 (Cal Poly, Cal State Dominguez Hills and UC Irvine).

    UNLV

  • UNLV continues to play outstanding defense this season, recording its sixth shutout of the year in Sunday's 0-0 tie with Colorado College. The six shutouts on the year is one short of a team record set in 2001.

  • Goalkeeper Desiree Kelly turned in the shutout for the Rebels, her first of the year and fourth of her career.

  • The Rebels have scored in just two of their last eight matches.

    Utah

  • After its two shutouts last weekend, Utah now has seven shutouts on the season.

  • The Utes have given up more than one goal in just two matches this year, winning both contests. Utah beat Colgate and Baylor, 3-2, both in overtime.

  • With 11 wins, Utah has its best winning percentage through 13 games in school history. Its previous best start was last season when Utah went 9-1-3 through 13 games.

  • Freshmen goalkeepers have held up well this season. Kaycie Zimmerman has allowed just five goals in 619 minutes, has 15 saves with a 0.73 goals against average and has three shutouts. Ashley Mason has given up only three goals in 564 minutes this year, has 30 saves with a 0.48 goals against average and has two shutouts.

    Wyoming

  • Wyoming is 2-0 in MWC play for the first time in school history. Prior to this season the Cowgirls had never won more than two conference games in a season. The Cowgirls had won just two total MWC matches in the conference's five year history until last weekend.

  • Wyoming is now 7-6-0 on the season, matching its best-ever win total for a season. In 2000 the Cowgirls finished 7-11-1.

  • The Cowgirls have won three consecutive matches this year which is their longest win streak in school history.

  • Goalkeeper Lori Scheider moved into second place all-time at Wyoming in saves this past weekend. Her 18 total saves in the two matches gives her 288 career saves.
