San Diego State redshirt sophomore midfielder/defender Sophie Metz and San Diego State redshirt freshman goalkeeper Rachel Boaz have been named Mountain West Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Metz, a product of Pleasanton, Calif., helped San Diego State to a pair of wins over TCU (W, 4-0) and Texas (1-0) last Friday and Sunday, respectively. For the week, the sophomore scored two goals, both game-winners, and added an assist to finish with five points. In Friday’s outing at TCU, Metz took a cross from teammate Rachael McGlincy and knocked in a shot from the middle of the box at the 3:17 mark. Two days later at Texas, Metz took a pass from teammate Cat Walker and scored from inside the box on a left-footed sliding kick that found the upper left corner of the net. The 44th-minute goal proved to be the lone score of the contest as the Aztecs went on to secure the shutout road victory.

Boaz, from Murrieta, Calif., picked up two victories last weekend after helping prevent TCU and Texas from finding the back of the net. In Friday night’s victory in Fort Worth, Boaz faced 11 shots, but stopped the only two that were on goal. Making her second start of the week against the Longhorns, Boaz faced 11 shots and denied the one that came on goal at the 64:17 mark. For the weekend, Boaz recorded a goals-against average of 0.00 and made three total saves.
