COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU sophomore forward Bjarnveig Birgisdottir and UNLV senior defender Nickie Olson have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Birgisdottir, from Kopavagur, Iceland, has tallied nine points on the season, all of which were accumulated this past weekend. After returning to the lineup from injuries, she recorded TCU's first hat trick since Sept. 3, 1999, in the Frog's 4-0 routing of Sam Houston State. Birgisdottir had a hand in all five goals the Frogs scored this weekend, recording the game-winning goals in both games, while posting an assist vs. SHSU. She totaled four goals and one assist on the weekend. Her seven-point game against SHSU ranks tied for third all-time in the MWC for points in a game and also ties for the sophomore record for points in a match.

Olson, a Las Vegas, Nev., native, was a big factor in UNLV's two shutout wins over the weekend. Her efforts helped hold Utah Valley State to 11 shots, and Creighton to just six shots for the game, including only one in the first half. The shutouts were the Lady Rebel's third and fourth of the season. She also contributed on offense, scoring her second goal of the season in a 3-0 win over UVS.
