BYU Kickers Welcome Washington By Nancy Bliss, The Daily Herald
Sept. 24, 1999
PROVO -- The BYU women's soccer team has a new lease on life, thanks to the recent NCAA ruling on Sunday play. Now the focus can remain on the soccer field, where 10th-ranked BYU will host Washington and Pacific this weekend. The BYU-Washington match will begin tonight at 7. Washington made the 1998 NCAA tournament and comes into tonight's match with a 2-3 record. One of its top players is former Bountiful High star Caroline Putz, a sophomore who leads Washington in scoring. "They have everybody back from last year, and from what I've heard they're a good, physical team," BYU soccer coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "Washington's one of the better team's we've had here. We're excited to play them." It's the first meeting between the two schools. Saturday, BYU will host Pacific, another 1998 NCAA qualifier which beat BYU the last time these two teams played.
