Sept. 19, 2011

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State freshman midfielder Shannon Schueren has been named Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while New Mexico senior defender Roxie McFarland has garnered MW Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Schueren, a native of Bothell, Wash., propelled Boise State to a 1-0 double-overtime victory over South Dakota on Friday night, scoring the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute of action. The game-winner was the second of the season for Schueren, who headed in a double-overtime winner against Portland State last weekend at the Viking Soccer Classic. She leads the Broncos in goals (three) and points (seven) this season.

Hailing from Odgen, Utah, McFarland scored a late goal to help New Mexico earn a 2-1 home victory over UC Riverside on Sunday afternoon. McFarland made her only shot of the match count, launching a free kick pas the goalkeeper with 44 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Lobos snap a three-match losing streak. As a defender, McFarland and New Mexico's defense limited UC Riverside to only three shots overall (one shot on goal) in the match.
