Women's Soccer Players of the Week BYU's Larkin and Harmon-Carter honored
Sept. 17, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior forward Katie Larkin and junior defender Jessica Harmon-Carter have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Larkin, a native of Draper, Utah, scored the game-winning goal in both of BYU's contests over the weekend. In the Cougars' 1-0 victory vs. Long Beach State, Larkin had four shots on goal but ultimately capitalized on a penalty kick to give her team the win. Against Wisconsin, she split three defenders and buried a left-footed goal from 25 yards into the far post for her third goal of the season. Harmon-Carter, a Provo, Utah, native, was the anchor for BYU's defense over the weekend. She leads one of the three Division I teams in the nation that have not allowed a goal in the 2007 season. In two games this week, Harmon-Carter helped hold opponents to only three shots on goal, compared to BYU's 12. The Cougars' five straight shutout victories to begin the season is also a school record. -MWC-
