MWC Women's Soccer Players of the Week TCU's Karoly, Wyoming's Lathrop and Utah's Rogers honored
Sept. 15, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU junior forward Lizzy Karoly and Wyoming senior forward Amanda Lathrop have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Utah junior goalkeeper Emalee Rogers was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Karoly, a native of Escondido, Calif., led TCU to a 2-0 record over the weekend. In the 2-1 win over Rice, the junior helped force overtime by deflecting a free kick from about 30 yards out into the goal. Against East Tennessee State, Karoly netted a hat trick, the first by an MWC player this season. The three goals tie her for third all-time in the TCU records book for goals scored by an individual in a single match. Lathrop, a Lakewood, Colo., native, had a hand in all four of Wyoming's goals over the weekend. In the 3-0 win over Idaho, she scored two unassisted goals, while adding an assist on the third. In the Cowgirls' first win over Gonzaga, the forward scored the only goal of the game to give her team a 1-0 victory. Rogers, who hails from Centerville, Utah, earned back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. She made five saves in a 2-0 win over Utah State, while recording three more to preserve a 0-0 2OT tie on the road at Loyola Marymount. Her first shutouts of the season lowered her overall goals against average from 2.07 to 1.53. -mwc-
