Sept. 13, 2004

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV junior forward Jessica Brown and BYU freshman goalkeeper Erika Woodbury have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. This is the first career weekly honor for both recipients.

Brown, a Las Vegas, Nev., product, led the Rebels to a 1-0-1 record over the weekend, scoring two goals and dishing out an assist. In UNLV's 3-0 win over Houston on Friday, she scored two first half goals, the first coming off a Nickie Olson pass two minutes into the match. Brown followed up with an unassisted strike from the right corner in the 12th minute to put the match out of reach. Against Rice, her corner kick led to a goal by Jenny Ruiz in the 42nd minute of the match tying the match as the two teams played to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

Woodbury, from Murrieta, Calif., helped BYU to victories over Utah State and Gonzaga last week, collecting her first and second career shutouts in the process. In the 2-0 Cougar victory over Utah State, she played all 90 minutes in goal, saving three shots. Woodbury saved two more shots in 81 minutes of action, holding Gonzaga scoreless for only the second time this season, in a 3-0 win.
