    Change of Pace
Wyoming has started the 2000 season with a 3-2-1 record, marking the best start in the soccer program¹s history. It needs need just three more victories this season to become the winningest team in Cowgirl soccer history.

Wyoming is also scoring at a uncanny pace this season. Prior to this year, the Cowgirl soccer team had never scored five or more goals in a match. This season, they have done it twice. Wyoming will get tested this week as it travels to Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

    Home-Sweet-Home
BYU has been unbeatable at South Field as of late. The Cougars have won 16 in a row at home dating back to a 6-1 win over Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 11, 1998. Last season, the Cougars went 12-0 at home and are 3-0 this season. The last time BYU lost at home was on Nov. 7, 1998 to San Diego State (2-1 in ot) in the championship match of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The last regular season defeat on South Field was also to the Aztecs (1-0 on Oct. 24, 1998).

    Back on Track
UNLV has opened the the 2000 season with a 2-0 home record with wins over Idaho and Bowling Green. The Rebels have won at least four matches in a row at home to begin each of the past three seasons. UNLV went 5-0 at Peter Johann Memorial Field at the start of the 1999 season, but then lost five in a row to close out the year.

    Unfamiliar Territory
San Diego State went 0-2 on the road this past week at Indiana and Cincinnati. The Aztecs now dropped three consecutive matches for the firt time since 1996 when they lost a team-record four in a row. The road does not get easier for SDSU as it faces two top 25 teams this week in Portland and Washington.

    On a Roll
BYU senior forward Michelle Jensen-Peterson is currently in the midst of a four match scoring streak, notching a goal or an assist in each contest. This past week, Jensen-Peterson tallied the only goal in the Cougars 2-1 overtime loss at Portland and had a hat trick in the 6-1 win over Creighton. The previous week, she had an assist vs. Washington State and a goal at Montana. Jensen-Peterson also scored two goals in the Cougars season opener vs. Weber State, making the 1-0 loss to Washington the only match in which she has not earned a point this season.

    Out of the Gate
San Diego State freshman Kim Castellanos, the 1999 San Diego County Player of the Year, became eligible last week and scored a goal on her first collegiate shot. Her goal came at the 27:03 mark of the the game vs. Indiana and tied the contest at 1-1. The Aztecs, though, fell 2-1.

    Streaks
Air Force holds the current MWC streak for consecutive matches without being shutout at 10. The last time the Falcons were shutout was on Oct. 23, 1999 at BYU (3-0). Utah hasn¹t been blanked in eight straight matches dating back to a 1-0 loss to Long Beach State on Oct. 30, 1999.

    Hat Tricks
The Mountain West Conference had three individuals record hat tricks in its inaugural season in Oe99. Through the first few weeks of the 2000 season, the MWC has seen two athletes accomplish the feat. Wyoming senior forward Kelly McShane recorded not only her first career hat trick, but the first ever in Wyoming women¹s soccer history in the 5-1 win over Eastern Washington. BYU¹s Michelle Jensen-Peterson tallied the second hat trick of the season in the conference and the first of her career in the 6-1 victory vs. Creighton.

    Record Breakers
Air Force demolished the Mountain West Conference single-match record for goals with its 14-0 win over Youngstown State on Aug. 27. The previous record was eight goals set by BYU vs. Northwestern in 1999. Air Force junior MF Carrie Wellman also established a new MWC individual single-match record with five assists in that match.

    Century Mark
BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood needs just three victories to reach the 100-win mark for her career. She is currently 97-24-1 in just over five seasons in Provo. Entering this season, Rockwood was ranked fifth among active coaches by winning percentage. She has averaged 18.6 wins per season over the past five years, which ranks second behind only Anson Dorrance of North Carolina for wins per season. Dorrance has won an average of 22.2 matches per season.

    MWC Quick Shots
